Yellow Giant Hyssop Agastache nepetoides
Tall, mint family perennial (4-6 ft) with smooth, square stems, large hairy leaves, and upright, dense spikes of tiny, pale greenish-yellow flowers that bloom in late summer, attracting many pollinators like bees and butterflies with its nectar. It features understated, creamy blooms on tall spikes that can reach up to 16 inches, offering a vital late-season food source, and its bitter foliage makes it deer-resistant, thriving in sun to part shade with moist, rich soil. 

 

Appearance:

  • Height: Grows 4 to 6 feet tall, sometimes taller.

  • Stems: Smooth, distinctly square, often with winged angles.

  • Leaves: Large, ovate (egg-shaped) with toothed edges, hairy (pubescent) underneath.

  • Flowers: Small, pale greenish-yellow to creamy-white, densely packed in long, cylindrical spikes (up to 8-16 inches) at stem tips.

  • Overall: Resembles an ear of corn or wheat

  • Bloom Time: Late July to early September, sometimes into October.
