A landscaping for wildlife program
Do you have a habitat? And do you have a passion for sharing your knowledge of nature with others? If so, consider inviting people to visit your habitat to engage with you and learn more.
At WMOY, we understand the value of on-site mentoring discussions, and our mission is to connect you directly with others who are equally interested in enhancing their own landscapes for wildlife. We will collaborate with you to create a website listing for your landscape that showcases its unique features and reflects your personal availability for visitors.
All visitors will be registered through the website, and only confirmed paid registrants will be granted access to your street address. Your privacy is paramount to us, and even your name will remain confidential.
We recommend that hosts allocate an hour for visits and limit registration to no more than six individuals at a time. Additionally, we will organize monthly Open Yards Weekends to promote the program, and hosts will be encouraged to be available for at least some of those dates.
However, all of this is flexible; you have the authority to determine exactly when you are open for visits, the duration of those visits, and the number of people who can register. Your presence on-site as a guide and mentor is one of the few firm requirements for site hosts.
The $5 fee that adult registrants pay will cover program expenses, such as the website, and will also help support other KCD services. We are delighted to offer this program to support the nationwide initiative to create more engaging, sustainable, and beautiful landscapes for both wildlife and people.
For further info or questions, please contact the Open Yards program coordinator at openyards@macd.org or 314-599-7390. If you want us to reach out to you directly to schedule a site visit to discuss the program further, visit the google form.
