Eastern redbud is a small native tree with attractive pink to lavender flowers in the spring (late April to early May), heart-shaped leaves through the summer, and brown, 2-3” seed pods in the fall and winter. The stems have a zigzag appearance. Eastern redbud can be used as a lawn tree, specimen tree or in woodland planting. Eastern redbud is not very tolerant to stress and is sensitive to salt. Mature trees are vase shaped. One of the first trees to bloom in the spring. Hummingbird nectar source and honeybees utilize the pollen.
