
Joel Betts oversees the MAEAP program in Kent County. He graduated from Calvin College with a B.S. in Biology and B.A. In International Development, and from Michigan State University with a M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife (Watershed Science Focus).
Before working for KCD Joel has held various positions, most recently as an Adjunct Professor for Calvin University and before that as a Conservation Planner for Worcester County Conservation District in Massachusetts. He also worked for years in Rainforest Conservation in Nicaragua.
Joel is passionate about conservation, sustainability, and stream restoration, and is a knowledgeable naturalist and ecologist. He is also an active gardener, outdoorsman, and hockey player.
He is happy to apply these experiences during MAEAP farm and forest verifications, and in support of other KCD programs and outreach. Please don’t hesitate to contact him with questions about plants, wildlife, or soil or other sustainability concerns on your property!
