Eco-steward Invasive Buckthorn Removal at Waterfront Park

Join the East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation and Kent Conservation District to help control and learn about invasive species in our community!

Volunteers are needed to help control several aggressive non-native invasive species, including buckthorn, at Waterfront Park. Treatment will involve cut stump and herbicide application on targeted species growing unchecked.

Learn about nonnative invasive species that alter ecosystem processes in complex ways. All ages are invited to attend. The day will be led by Kent Conservation District’s STRIKE team.

Volunteers are welcome to stay for an hour or the entire morning. Wear warm clothes, long sleeves, pants and closed toed shoes. All snacks, supplies, gloves, eye protection and tools will be provided by the strike team.

Additional parking is located at the Public Works Complex / Remington Baseball Field parking lot (2310 Reeds Lake Blvd.)
